Youzhny claims epic win to set US Open semi-final against Nadal

Russian 12th seed Mikhail Youzhny reached the US Open semi-finals for the second time with a grueling five-set win over Swiss 25th seed Stanislas Wawrinka.

Youzhny came from behind to post a 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 3-6 6-3 6-3 victory on another windy night at Flushing Meadows.

"It was a close match in tough conditions. We both didn't play our best because of the wind, but it was a great match and a good fight and I got a bit lucky in the end," Sky Sports quoted Youzhny, as saying.

The 28-year-old previously reached the semi-finals in 2006, when he lost to Andy Roddick in four sets.

Youzhny will now play World No.1 Rafael Nadal, who beat eighth-seeded Spanish compatriot Fernando Verdasco 7-5 6-3 6-4.

The Russian has a 4-7 win-loss record over Nadal. (ANI)
