Jihad Jamie second American woman to be arrested for attempted assasination of Danish cartoonist

    Saturday 20th March, 2010

Critics of racial-profiling have argued that racial-profiling is becoming increasingly ineffective, especially in the fight against terrorism following the arrest of a second white woman accused of plotting a terrorist attack.

The American Jamie-Paulin Ramirez, 31, (dubbed Jihad Jamie by the US media) was arrested in Ireland for allegedly plotting to assassinate the Danish Cartoonist, Lars Vilks, who offended many Muslims when he published a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad portrayed as a dog.

Another white American woman was arrested on similar charges in October. Blond haired, fair-skinned, Colleen LaRose who has dubbed herself ‘Jihad Jane’, remains in police custody in the US for plotting to assassinate Lars Vilks.

"It shows racial profiling is ineffective, as we've always said," Ibrahim Hooper, a Council on American-Islamic relations spokesman said.

The two women join a fair-haired North Carolina man and his sons, a young Nigerian and others accused in the past year of perpetrating or plotting Islamist violence. There racial groups, backgrounds and religious affiliations are diverse.

Republican senator James Inhofe said in January: "If you're looking at people getting on a plane and you have X amount of resources to get into it, you need to get at targets, not my wife."

His words echo a common belief in the US, that racial profiling is expedient in government efforts to prevent terrorist attacks in the US.

It’s interesting though, that the racial profile of the senator’s wife matched that of Jihad Jane and Jihad Jamie.

Liberal chatshow host Rachel Maddow poked fun at racial profiling this week. "We're now looking for anyone who is a man, a woman, an American, an African, a Middle Easterner, an Eastern European, a Western European, a blond, a brunette or between the ages of 20 and 49…” (Picture courtesy CBS News).
